IELTS Speaking Sample Part 2 - Someone Who Made A Lot Of Noise

Updated: Apr 24

Describe a time when someone near you made a lot of noise

You should say:

  • When and where it happened

  • Who made the noise

  • How you reacted to the noise

And explain how you felt about the noise

_______

Well, I vividly remember  a time when I was studying in my college library and some people nearby made a lot of noise. It was during my final exam period, and I had decided to hit the library to get some serious studying done.

The library was usually a quiet and peaceful place, perfect for concentration. However, on this particular day, a group of students gathered at a table nearby and started chatting loudly. It was incredibly distracting, especially when I was trying to focus on my studies.

The noise was coming from a group of four students who seemed to be catching up on  their social lives rather than studying. They were laughing loudly and even playing music on their phones. Initially, I tried to tune the noise out  and continued studying, hoping they would quiet down eventually. But as time went on and the noise persisted , it became increasingly difficult to concentrate.

Eventually, the noise became too disruptive  for me to focus. Although irritated , especially with limited exam prep time, I politely asked the group to keep it down. Thankfully, they were understanding and moved to a quieter place in the library, leaving me in peace to get back to my important studies.

Looking back, the disruption definitely threw a wrench into  my study session, but it taught me valuable lessons. I learned that sometimes a polite request can work wonders , and everyone deserves a chance to focus in shared spaces like the library. From then on, I always carried noise-canceling headphones , just in case.
