IELTS Speaking Sample Part 1 - Topic: Sleep

"How many hours do you sleep at night / every day?"

Well, it’s kinda hard to say for sure, but on weekdays and when I have to work against the clock to meet deadlines I can only sleep for roughly 5 to 6 hours per day. Only when on holiday or at the weekend can I be in a deep sleep for 7 hours or more.


"Do you often have a nap during the day?"

Definitely yes, a catnap for around 20 to 30 minutes every afternoon is extremely beneficial to me. I'll feel much better when I've had forty winks, and I know for sure this can boost my productivity. To be frank, whenever I have to work hours on end without a lunch break for a snooze, I always feel exhausted and worn out.


"Do you think sleep is important?"

Absolutely yes, a good night's sleep is crucial to one's physical, emotional as well as psychological well-being. In other words, sleep deprivation might result in increased risks of accidents and injuries at home, at work and on the road and make one prone to serious medical conditions, such as obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.


"What can you do to have a good sleep?"

I’m not really sure, but I suppose taking a hot bath or refraining from having some snacks before bedtime could prove quite useful in many cases. Whenever I'm sleep deprived, I usually try these methods first and they seem to be highly effective. In addition, listening to some soft and soothing instrumental music might also work.
