IELTS Speaking Sample Part 1 - Gifts

Updated: Apr 15

1. Have you ever sent handmade gifts to others?

Absolutely! I love giving handmade gifts. Last year, I decided to knit a scarf for my sister in her favorite colors. It took ages  to finish, but seeing her wear it all winter really warmed my heart. It just felt so much more meaningful than something store-bought, you know.

2. Have you ever received a great gift?

Yes, of course. One of the best presents I’ve ever received was a set of watercolors  and a beautiful sketchbook  for my birthday. It was from my aunt, who knows I've always loved to paint.  I use them all the time now and it always makes me think of her encouragement.

3. What do you consider when choosing a gift?

Well, picking a gift often boils down to  two things for me: the person's interests and the occasion. A gift related to their hobby shows I've been thinking of them, and of course, it'll be a different gift for a friend than that for my family. Budget sometimes matters too, but a thoughtful present doesn't really have to break the bank , you know!

4. Do you think you are good at choosing gifts?

To be honest, although I wouldn’t say I’m inherently  good at picking gifts, I do definitely put a lot of effort into it. People usually seem happy with what I choose, but it can be a bit of a gamble  sometimes! At the end of the day , what really matters for me is how the gifts show my care to the recipients.
