IELTS Writing Sample Task 1 - MAPS

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

The pictures show the layout of a cinema in 1980 and the same cinema now.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The maps compare and contrast the changes that have taken place in a cinema over a 40-year period since 1980.

As observed from the maps, the cinema has experienced a number of renovations with newly introduced facilities.

One obvious change is that cinema 1, which was to the left of the entrance, is now moved to the area near the toilet to make way for a catering space, as well as a relaxation room. In addition, the whole building is expanded with the removal of the car park at the back. Cinema 2, originally opposite the toilet, is now reduced in size and relocated to the left of the extended area.

Regarding the right side of the entry, a series of new cinemas: 3, 4, and 5 have been put up. Meanwhile, while the drinks room to the south-east is converted into a DVD shop, the ticket box remains unchanged.
